Virtual Reality Could Help Treat Patients

We are living in a fast expanding technology era where every day researchers and scientist work on developing something new that will make our lives easier and help us in all aspects of our lives. Virtual reality is something that has a short history but it’s already making great changes and shaping the way we think about technology.

It has found its use in medicine too. Virtual reality enables the doctors to visualize human organs as a 3D hologram model helping them establish a more accurate diagnosis. Three-dimensional holograms allow doctors to plunge into the beating heart, for example and see the interior parts of the organ. This enables them to see the exact cause of the disease and make their upcoming surgery easier, faster and safer to perform. Virtual diagnosis can be made and more clearly presented by using a virtual model on the computer or using a 3D hologram.

Apart from the 3D holograms helping treat specific individuals, virtual reality training simulators can help the new and inexperienced staff. The software simulates real life situations in which the doctors can practice and test their ability. It teaches them how to respond in real life emergencies without the risk of harm to themselves or the patient. This technology can be used as many times as you like and various challenging tasks can be set according to the level of doctor’s expertise.

A good example of training software is HumanSim. It’s designed to help in training of all medical staff from nurses to doctors and specialists. The software engages them in a series of tasks while monitoring the participant’s vitals and emotions via a series of sensors.

Virtual surgery is another example of how virtual reality and modern technology can help during the medical procedures. The surgery is performed by a robotic device, controlled by the doctor enabling him the precision and safety that no human hand can provide. It is an essential device for modern medicine procedures done across the world.

Other examples of good use of virtual reality can be found in virtual reality dentistry, therapies, phobia treatment, autism and PTSD treatment.
