Have you tried the latest craze in video recording and sharing today? Introducing: Dubsmash.
A few years back, many netizens got hooked on making and sharing their own video versions of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” by recording a video of them lip syncing to the song and uploading it on Youtube. International pop stars like Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Ashley Tisdale and friends recorded their own version of this and it went viral. Even local personalities like Solenn Heussaff, Anne Curtis, Georgina Wilson, Liz Uy, Isabelle Daza and other friends got into the craze.
Back then, people lip synced to the song by playing the song while at the same time recording a video with the use of their laptops and mobile device. This time though, an app called Dubsmash does just that in one outlet and everyone can’t get enough of it.
Dubsmash is a selfie video recording and video sharing tool that was founded by Germans Jonas Drüppel, Roland Grenke and Daniel Taschik. They launched the app back in November 2014. But it was only recently that many people got into the craze.
Dubsmash is available for download for free on the App and Play Store. To record a video of your own, just make a Dubsmash account. Once in, choose the kind of recording you want to dub and record a video. There is a massive collection of preloaded sound on the app. You can opt to dub on a pickup lines, simple phrases like “yes” and “no,” hit lines from reality TV shows or your favorite movie or even a stanza of your favorite song. After selecting the sound, just press start to record. Once done with recording, you can opt to save the video on your mobile device or share it on a message for a friend or on social media.
Local celebrities have installed it on their mobile device and uploaded videos of them dubbing to preloaded phrases, song and other voice recordings. Facebook and Twitter news feeds are teeming with videos of this as well. Adam Levine got into the craze by lip syncing to a line from the movie Pulp Fiction. In January, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland also posted on her Instagram some Dubsmash videos.
A few hours ago, Khloe Kardashian shared her own Dubsmash video. Even actress Kate Upton uploaded a Dubsmash video borrowing some lines from the 2008 comedy Step Brothers.
But aside from lip syncing to preloaded audio, you can also use it for your original audio – a sort of marketing tool just like how R&B singer Rihanna did it. In March, the singer released a teaser of her song “B***** Better Have My Money!” that’s part of her upcoming eight studio album using the Dubsmash app.
